In our first class we will study basic shapes such as lines, circles, squares and triangles, which are fundamental for any artistic creation. We will also explore human anatomy, focusing on the skeleton and the concept of volume to add dimension to the works. In addition, we will learn about perspective, depth and the contrast between lights and shadows to achieve greater realism.
We will continue learning perspective, depth, and the use of contrast between light and shadow. As practice, we will create thumbnails of facial elements (eyes, mouth, nose, ears) to capture each feature with precision and detail.
In our second class we will delve into the exciting process of creating the Work, focusing on the making of the portraits. Using the knowledge acquired in the first class about basic shapes, anatomy and miniature techniques, we will focus on capturing the essence and personality of our subjects on the canvas. With the guidance and support of the instructor, we will immerse ourselves in the challenge of capturing the unique essence of each individual, creating works that reflect both their physical appearance and their emotional interiority. An intensive two-day workshop focused on drawing objects with pencil, conté and charcoal. This hands-on experience is designed to improve your skills in representing objects on paper.
Day 1: Exploring Forms and Techniques We will begin with basic forms to improve hand agility. Practice drawing lines, circles, squares and triangles, essential for any drawing. Explore tone, brightness and the impact of the contrast between light and shadow on the composition. Study concepts of perspective and depth, including vanishing points and the use of the four-quadrant plane to structure your work. Observe various everyday objects. Choose one to study its shape and draw it directly using different media. Discover the internal axes and structures of forms. Create shape studies that also serve as your first artistic composition. Discover the nuances of black and white drawing through advanced grayscale techniques, including shading, feathering, dithering, and the use of tonal values to create depth, contrast, and texture.
